O Magnify the Lord

Deuteronomy 3:24: O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?

These words were spoken by Moses near the end of his life, a 120 year span defined by miraculous intervention.  He was born in a dark time, and had lived through much trial and affliction. Through it all, God had given deliverance, provided miraculously, and shown great mercy to His people.  Yet, Moses understood all of this as a minuscule revelation of God’s magnificence. Moses’ vast experience recounted served to magnify the Lord in his eyes for the challenges Israel was yet to face.  Truly there is no end to God’s greatness, but life can present new troubles and create uncertainties that loom so large as to obscure God’s Omnipotence. We can learn from Moses a secret to enduring faith.  Extolling the greatness of God as revealed in His Word, and from our own experience, will magnify the Lord in our eyes, thereby allowing our faith to be strong in any situation.

Magnify means to extol (praise), to cause to be held in GREATER esteem or respect, to enlarge in fact. Our God needs no magnification, it is we who need to magnify Him over ALL that is ominous to us.  His greatness will always extend beyond our comprehension.

Psalms 34:1-4: I will bless the LORD at ALL times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. 3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. 4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from ALL my fears.

Psalms 145:1-7: I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name forever and ever. 2 Everyday will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name forever and ever. 3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. 4 One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. 5 I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works. 6 And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness. 7 They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.
